Untreated Dental Disease Has Real Medical Consequences
At Dental ERx, we treat oral health as a core part of overall health — not an afterthought.
Surgical Delays
Many surgical procedures require dental clearance beforehand. Untreated oral infections can push back surgeries and complicate recovery.
Infection Risk
An untreated dental infection doesn’t stay local. Left unaddressed, it can spread to the jaw, neck, or bloodstream — becoming life-threatening.
ER Overuse
Emergency rooms see thousands of dental-related visits every year — most of which could be addressed more effectively in a dental setting with proper access.
Cancer Treatment Delays
Oncology patients often need dental clearance before starting radiation or chemotherapy. Oral health is a critical part of treatment readiness.
Transplant Complications
Organ transplant teams routinely require dental clearance. Poor oral health can impact candidacy and post-transplant outcomes.
Medication Interactions
Complex medication regimens — blood thinners, immunosuppressants, bisphosphonates — can significantly affect dental care. We evaluate those risks as part of our work.

about
Built on the Belief That Oral Health Is Overall Health
Dr. Shanika Maddox founded Dental ERx because she kept seeing the same problem: patients whose medical treatment was delayed, complicated, or derailed by untreated dental disease. The connection between oral and systemic health is well-established in research — but in practice, the two worlds rarely talk to each other.
With a background in clinical dentistry and a doctoral focus in public health, Dr. Maddox set out to build something different — a practice rooted in the hospital, embedded in the care team, and accessible to the community it serves.
Dental ERx is located inside St. Francis Bartlett’s Medical Arts Pavilion not by coincidence, but by design. Proximity to medical teams means faster coordination, better outcomes, and care that doesn’t fall through the cracks.
Walk In. Get Care. Walk Out.
No appointment needed. Come to Suite 311 at St. Francis Bartlett Medical Arts Pavilion during business hours. Our front desk will get you checked in right away.
A licensed dentist will assess your concern, take imaging if needed, and discuss your options with you — clearly, without the jargon.
Treatment, prescriptions, and follow-up coordination — all handled in one visit when possible. We’ll also communicate with your other providers as needed.
